MONICA CRAWFORD

Education:

I received my Bachelor’s in Fine Art, Painting from San Francisco State University. After graduating, I continued with painting courses at UC Berkeley and the San Francisco Art Institute. I have spent the last 20 years cultivating a diverse and interconnected body of work with themes drawing upon the urban environment as a metaphor, irony and love.

Fusion Series:  This abstracted body of work is my most recent focus; representing growth, genetics, defects and strengths, and our nation dealing with internal and external turmoil. It’s a "fusion" of ruin and recovery, biology and physics, environment and reaction, meditation and visualization and the investigation of how each intertwine into a beautiful metaphor.

ARCHIVES

Hat Series:  For many years the Vietnamese culture, traditions and rituals have greatly influenced my images and I've developed a greater appreciation, admiration and understanding for the people of Vietnam through this series. These works focus on the beauty and over all feel of the people of Vietnam essentially exploring the theoretical push and pull of the challenges of the two different cultures, American and Vietnamese, holding on to a strong family unit & their ancient traditions in a progressive society.

Figurative:  Works focused on the human form ranging from nude to abstracted clothing in motion and also in still.
